Canggu Beach as a family - where to stay and what to do
Oh, Canggu, you sly fox, with your mixed bag of reviews! There I was, knee-deep in "mommy research mode," trying to decipher whether this Bali hotspot was a go or a no for our little tribe. And by little, I mean really little—baby Scarlett was only 8 months old, her interests leaning more towards nap schedules than surf schedules. Just when I thought I'd spiral into decision paralysis, a dear friend came through like a superhero with a top tip. "Pererenan," she declared, "just a 20-minute beachside stroll from Canggu." With baby gear and hopes in tow, we ventured out. Let's just say, Pererenan was the calm in our travel storm—a serene slice of paradise that whispered, "Welcome, tired parents and curious baby." Who knew such peace was just a short walk away? Our friend, apparently, and now, thankfully, so do we.
What to prepare for a trip in Canggu as a family
For a family trip to Canggu, especially with a baby, we would recommend to pack essentials due to limited local availability:
- Bring enough nappies for the trip. Finding them in Canggu can be a challenge, likely a remnant of the 2022 post-COVID period, maybe it got better since
- Stock up on baby formula for the month. With limited advertising and the absence of safe drinking water, Indonesia didn’t seem to be big on it. Scarlett was already diversifying and was more than lucky to do so with the abundance of food but we still needed a couple of bibs a day.
Everything else was easy to find, we exclusively ate out (and the food was glorious). Regarding clothes and other things, there is also a lot of choice for all the family (but be prepared to look like a surfer).

When in Canggu, your taste buds are in for a treat, and here’s a hit-list to keep everyone from the tiniest tummies to the most discerning palates happy:
- **La Brisa** for that beachfront vibe and fresh seafood. Notable bonus: the staff was super sweet with our baby.
- **Copenhagen** is a must for brunch enthusiasts. Cozy up for some Danish delights that'll make you forget you're in Bali.
- **BB52** for when you're craving a burger and cocktails. It's the spot to satisfy that comfort food itch.
- Dive into the local scene with **Nasi Campur** or **Babi Guling** at various local joints. It’s a flavor explosion not to be missed.
- And, because no one should skimp on dessert, the bakeries here are insane!!! Yes, coming from a French person, that's saying a lot. The pastries and bread are on another level of delicious.
Canggu’s culinary scene is vast and varied – from traditional dishes to international cuisines, ensuring there's something for everyone.
Where to work around Canggu?
In the vibrant café scene of Canggu, Tribal Café in Pererenan stands out not just for its excellent coffee and conducive coworking atmosphere, but also for its uniquely welcoming policy—there's no fee to work there, you only pay for your drinks. This spot goes beyond the typical café offerings; it boasts a space dedicated to yoga, allowing you to stretch and unwind, and even a pool, perfect for a refreshing dip after hours of productivity. Tribal Café's blend of amenities, from its cost-effective approach to workspaces to its wellness facilities, encapsulates the ideal balance of work and relaxation, making it the ultimate go-to for anyone looking to get some work done in a relaxed, health-conscious environment.
That being said, if you are looking for a better value while working, we would recommend to stay in Ubud for families where there are more coworking space.
